Industry Certifications

65% of Virginia’s annual employment openings in manufacturing are in jobs that require more than a high school diploma but less than a Bachelor’s Degree; these high-paying jobs require industry certifications that validate “middle skills” attainment.

69% of Virginia’s manufacturers report entry-level workers do not have the manufacturing technology skills needed for advanced technology jobs.

There is a projected shortfall of 11,000 skilled technicians for career opportunities in Virginia’s modern manufacturing sector.

To respond to the advanced technology skills gap, the Manufacturing Skills Institute (MSI) promotes the Manufacturing Technician Level 1 (MT1) and Manufacturing Specialist (MS) Certifications. These certifications address the core technical competencies required for skilled production occupations in all sectors of manufacturing.
